Description
The RX Firecracker Ned is a finesse ned head built for the days when SoCal spotted bay bass are super pressured and ignoring everything else.
It stands your bait up off the bottom and lets it wave in the current. Because the flat base keeps it upright on any substrate — sand, rock, structure — your soft plastic stays in the strike zone and looks alive without you doing anything. That’s the whole point of a ned head presentation, and this one does it cleanly.
Pressured fish in SoCal harbors have seen a lot. A smaller, quieter presentation on a quality ned head changes the equation. When a standard jig head gets ignored, slowing down and going finesse is usually the right call. Drag it slow, pause it, and let the bait move in the current between strokes. Sometimes less is way more.
The ned rig works because it doesn’t do too much. There’s no aggressive tail kick, no vibration — just a soft plastic standing up off the bottom and waving. For spotted bay bass sitting tight to structure on a tough day, that subtle movement is often enough to trigger a bite.
How to rig it: Thread your soft plastic onto the hook and leave the tail free to wave. The RX Slug cut down into a split-tail presentation works well on this head. For a slightly larger profile, try the RX Skeleton Craw rigged on the ned head and dragged slow along the bottom. Pair with Blacktail Fishing hooks for the best hookup ratio on light bites.
