Description
The Blacktail Swimbait EWG Hook with Spring is an extra-wide-gap hook with a built-in spring bait keeper below the eye. High-carbon forged steel, not round wire, so it holds up under pressure without adding bulk to the profile. The tip uses a cone cut grind for a sharper point that goes in on less pressure, and the barb is sized up for more holding power once a fish is on, that combination is what makes it easy to hook and hard to shake.
Black nickel finish. Available in 1/0, 3/0, 5/0, and 7/0, three hooks per pack.
Blacktail Swimbait EWG Hook Rigging
I run these on RX Paddle Tails and Slugs around Marina del Rey. The spring keeper holds the head of a soft plastic in place so it doesn’t slide down the shank after a hookset or a few hard casts.
Rides weedless through kelp, grass, and structure where an exposed point means getting hung up instead of getting bit.
I’ve found the smaller sizes hold up better than expected. On days when the forage shrinks, going down to a 1/0 or 3/0 still lands bigger fish than you’d guess, as long as your rod position and retrieve match what’s actually in the water.
